More About Rhinoplasty

The Rhinoplasty Process

Dr. Fodero first conducts an initial consultation, during which time he will inquire regarding your medical history, including any existing conditions you have or medications you are currently taking. He will also want to discuss your aesthetic goals. It is always recommended that you come prepared with photos of noses that you like, to give Dr. Fodero a clear picture of what you want to achieve. Next, Dr. Fodero will map out the best course of action with which to move forward. The procedure is then performed as follows:

  • The patient is given general anesthesia so he or she will sleep comfortably during the surgery.
  • An incision is made either on the inside of the nose (closed rhinoplasty) or on both the inside and along the strip of skin that separates the nostrils (open rhinoplasty).
  • The bone and cartilage are reshaped and the skin is re-draped accordingly.
  • Any excess skin is removed.
  • Incisions are closed using sutures.

Dr. Fodero will provide detailed aftercare instructions, which include keeping the head elevated and applying cold packs to minimize swelling. It is critical for a safe and quick recovery that patients follow the doctor’s orders.

Preparing for the Consultation

Dr. Joseph Fodero offers free consultations at his Florham Park, New Jersey office to discuss nose reshaping surgery, or rhinoplasty. He often schedules evening hours to meet the demands of working patients.

Before discussing the cost of rhinoplasty, it is important to understand that our practice treats each patient as an individual and that different factors may influence the actual price of the procedure. No two noses are alike, and rhinoplasty is customized according to the goals and needs of each patient. During rhinoplasty consultations, Dr. Fodero asks patients some basic questions and takes a short medical history. He listens to patients describe his or her expectations for nose reshaping surgery and answers any questions they might have about rhinoplasty. He then examines patients and informs them of all their available options before helping them decide on a course of action.

At this point, patients will discuss cost and payment options with our nurse. She will also offer a unique perspective on rhinoplasty, a perspective that comes from 32 years of experience as an operating room nurse. Patients leave our office with a greater knowledge of rhinoplasty and more of the tools required to make an informed decision about whether to proceed with surgery.
